Joy
Hi there. I am Joy. I have been a professional photographer since 2012. I have enjoyed photography since I was a girl but I only started selling photographs after I was grown and started my family. Photography up to that point was documentation for scrapbooks. The avenue that lead me to professional photography was when I became a mom. I was looking for a way to take really great pictures of my baby all the time. Having family photos taken once a year was not enough for me. I got a camera and took pictures of Jessica all the time. I shared them on FB, which was a huge task in 2006, and people began to request photos. Long story short, I opened my business in 2012 and I've been doing it sense. There have been a few hickups and temporary closures, like Covid and divorce, but I'm back and determined to make this full time again. I'm also looking forward to making wood art, so look for that in the future too.
My photography style is full color or black and white, which you may have noticed. I like full contrast, full color and relaxed pose, portrait style photographs. My favorite sessions are newborns and seniors because these are huge events in our lives and everyone loves having them done and sharing them. My style is a mash up of my favorite artists; Escher, Dali, Picasso, Ann Gedes, and O.O I forgot her name... But essentially, they all love black and white and full color, using both the warm and cool tones together and the lighting is harsh with full contrast.
Regardless of the reason that people take photos, my sessions are all the same. Newborn sessions cost more because of the time it takes to take the pictures, the props needed, the fashions that change and the post processing time. It is much more work to create that art than a one hour senior session. Newborn sessions are three hours and can take up to twelve hours to process the images. They look so amazing though and I just love them and I love making them. I have them all over the walls in my house. (People come over and say Oh how beautiful! Which one of your babies is this one? I say Natalie. They say Who? I say she was a client 12 years ago. They say You have clients on your walls? I say Yes, I love her photos. You enjoyed it too. See what I mean? They say Yes, I see what you mean. The photo is beautiful and I would hang it my wall too.
This is my work and I love it.
These are some of my photos from over the years, so you know what I look like when we meet up. This is a selfie of my new glasses! hahaha
Looking at this photo makes me realize that I have not turned the camera on myself for headshots in years. I guess I have some work to do!
